Comic book companies and their distributors always provided promotional material to the local comic shops. Marvel was no exception and often produced beautiful works of art in the process. Like many shops, these promo posters were seen as advertisements and were trashed as soon as the published work was on the shelf. Luckily, some of us rescued these pieces for all prosperity. Here’s a 20th Century piece of Marvel Comics history promoting their fan-favorite comic book character, THE MIGHTY THOR , illustrated by fan-favorite artist, Walt Simonson. When Walt took over the reigns of Thor, he was given creative control and made some great changes that still exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe today (Beta Ray Bill, Stormbringer, etc). Fortunately, turning Thor into The Mighty FROG of THUNDER was temporary. Originally folded in quarters and delivered flat, this has been stored in a smoke-free, pet-free, air-conditioned environment for over 35 years. Some creasing in the center due to the original folding is there but does not deter from this poster’s beautiful and dynamic image. There is a very slight discoloration depicted and circled/highlighted in the photo section. It will be mailed flat and insured.
