Will Eisner was a master cartoonist /sequential illustrator/ storyteller/creator/teacher. He was around at the dawn of the American Comic Book Explosion in the late 1930’s-early 1940’s and was an inspiration to all those that followed. Creating The Spirit as a Syndicated weekly insert for thousands of newspapers made him very well known throughout the country. Eisner was drafted and plied his craft in the US Army’s PS Magazine. Comicbook art/sequential illustration was not only for SuperHero Fantasy stories any more and Will found that comics could be used to teach and tell mature themed stories. Graphic Novels were’invented’ and Contract With God became one of the most successful of them all. Eventually, Will decised that he would teach his craft at The School of Visual Arts and further influence the field of comics. In 1983, SVA had a retrospective show of his work throught his career. This 17″ X 24″ poster was the advertisment for that great show back in 1983. It is in excellent condition w/some minor damage on the lower edge approx 4 non-invasive to the image and 4 pin holes when this was briefly displayed in the studio. The colors are bright and brilliant as the day they were printed. Personally acquired while at SVA and stored for over 35 years in a smoke-free, pet-free, air-conditioned environment.
