Rare NOS 1967 Wham-O Giant Comic Book Cardboard Promo Store Display and Poster
Up for sale is a 1967 Wham-o comic book store display and poster set. Amazing art and graphic. It has been in its original box since 1967. These two items are extremely rare as they only came to retail stores that ordered them with the comic books in bulk. Often these items were thrown away after use so they are really hard to find and in new original stock. That is why they are in such great shape. Included is the colorful cardboard display and promotional poster. The display has discoloring but does not detract from overall aesthetic. The poster is in near mint condition with no tears or rips. Poster measures 21 X 28. Display measures 14 X13. Great rare item to add to your comic book collection. You will not find another available. Below is some additional history on the comic book. Ads boasted that this special was packed with “adventure, mystery, science fiction, fun, and cartoons” – and they were right. The only themes that seem to be missing are Westerns and Sports. Kids loved it, because this comic had more stories than regular comic issues, some even lasting three giant pages (about 12 regular comic pages worth), but the retailers had a hard time displaying it properly. Laying it flay on a counter was the only solution for many, since it didn’t fit in a regular spinner rack, and wouldn’t stand up properly with the larger coloring and hardcover books. This took up valuable display space at the local five-and-dime, where every square inch of display space counted. Subscriptions were offered, but subsequent issues never appeared. Wally Wood had the lead-off story about Radian, the Atomic Hercules, and was the only artist/writer to have two stories appear in the book. Looking back now, some of the characters seem to range from faint copies to blatant rip-offs of other established comic book and cartoon stars. Due to its unwieldy size, it is hard to find in better conditions, and without a crease across the middle ofthe book. All in all, the comic can be rated as a mild success for its attempts to change comic book publishing formats, but was nevertheless a commercial failure. 1st appearance of Radian (Gilman Graves); Wraparound cover; Oversized oversize 14 X 21Wally Wood, W. Rare 1977 Marvel Comics Spider-Man Appearance Poster John Romita Art Marvelmania
Back in the 1970’s, Marvel Comics hired actors to dress up as various Super Heroes and make public appearances at department stores, parades and other venues. The program was called “Rent A Super Heroes” and this was one of the posters sent to the customer to display in the window (or wall) to announce the Super Hero’s arrival date and time. It is approximately 17 x 22.5 inches, printed in 1977 and is unused. It was rolled for many years so it doesn’t lay flat but won’t be noticed if framed. It also has an upper corner crease/edge wear, but does not detract from the iconic image, and is in Very Fine condition. Pic #2 shows an actual photo of a similar poster on display, back in the late-1970’s. This photo is for reference only and not included or for sale. Rare original 1966 Batman DC Detective Comics silver age 40 x 27 poster 11960's
CONTINENTAL USA BUYERS ONLY FOR THIS LISTING, DUE TO THE GIANT SIZE OF THIS POSTER. This is a RARE VINTAGE ORIGINAL 1966 BATMAN POSTER, it’s VERY BIG , and it features the artwork of long-time silver age Batman and Brave and the Bold artist CARMINE INFANTINO. This Batmania poster measures about 40 inches by 27 inches, and that’s giant sized compared to most of today’s superhero posters. This 1960’s Dark Knight detective poster was produced by a company called G&F Posters of New York City (NYC), who also produced 1966 posters of Superman and Robin the Boy Wonder. Batman is shown here in the poster saying Nonsense! There’s no such things as –uhh! , and this was the same image used for the cover to the Batman Detective Comics issue 331 comic book from around 1964. This listing is for the poster only, of course. CONDITION NOTES (see photos): This’66 poster still retains it’s gorgeous colors, it has NEVER BEEN DISPLAYED, and it has some light creasing and crinkles from being stored rolled all these decades, and some very light tanning. With that in mind, I’d grade this poster as “fine/fn” condition (using comic book grading terms). I’m 100 percent certain that many other poster sellers and collectors would grade this poster higher, but I prefer to grade more conservatively. It’s incredible this scarce poster even survived the 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s, the 2000’s, and now. There can’t be many of these posters left in existence after all these years, especially in this condition!
